THE LEGENDARY HORSEMAN

Leather-tied, he halts

He halts to the ground

He is with no wagon

Not puzzled by the barks

He’s no stranger here

To day-wrapper tales

That scared the daylight

They did a trick, though;

Loose life looked better

And the legendary

Horse-shoe rebound …

Surprised, we would bow

To the white “cowboy”

Race Course was the joint

Green and grassy like lawn

And as huge as sky

After school we would wait

To watch the racing beasts

Strong and fast as raging

Currents of water in a river

The horseman was the legend

The horse was the stunt

It chanted in political rallies

Danced with the black

Merchant’s daughter

And horse-played in

The rider’s grandpa birthday

We loved it, not of amusement

But of love of amusement

Our homage was untrue

Because we were barefoot

And the horse hooves were shoed

We were small and humble

But the horseman had a

Heavy holster on his backside

And pieces of lead

In his stirrup boots

Not to mention the fortress

At the heart of the mighty

Ranch.
