It’s Easier to Be Caught Cheating in an Online Course

In as much as internet continues to offer online students more and more chances of cheating in online courses, there are in the same degree more ways that the lecturers can use to detect the cheaters. However, for success, the later technology has to be sharper, else it will be like “If the tree falls in the forest…”

The fact that a foolproof solution to online cheating is hard to achieve can not be refuted, but that does not mean it is unachievable. The authenticity of the course enrollment by a student need to go beyond the question of; “how do you know it’s Dave who is sitting for the exam?” Anonymity and isolation are some of the causes of online cheating when it comes to online students. The same factors do not exempt the traditional class from the same effects as a 100 students sitting in a lecture hall are too likely to feel isolated and consequently encouraged to cheat. It’s much like living in a big city where you are less known and living in a small neighborhood where everybody knows you. Here; you wouldn’t do something bad as somebody is likely to tell your folks just in case it gets known.

There are quite a number of technologies that can be put into use to curb online cheating among online students. Although most of these tools are online, there are also those that are independent software. It is pretty easier to subject digital work to security and authentication checks as compared to paperwork. And when it comes to cyberspace, you can’t hide! So next time you submit some copied stuff to your lecturer as an assignment, be prepared for a slam; “PLAGIARISM DETECTED!” It’s shameful. Ain’t it?
