I once bumped on an ancient wooden table in grandpa’s house and got instantly enamored. It was not as shiny and with close inquisition, it was twice as old as my age! Nevertheless, the antique set had maintained its intrinsic beauty all through. After a while I thought of giving the old man a treat to his set; after which the results were amazing. The first step was to clean off the wood and stripping off the old applications. When you are stripping off the old coat of varnish or wax from a wood furniture, there are a number of products that you can use for your convenience. You can either use a Wax and Polish Remover or a general purpose wood cleaner. The surfaces may require some sanding to remove indentations and give the furniture a smooth face. Thereafter, you can choose the most appropriate finish to give your item.
I chose waxing for the table and varnish for the chairs. The kind of external grooming usually depends on the type of wood and the application of the furniture. While waxing can be a little demanding in maintenance, it gives your item a classic appearance. Varnish is good as well and more permanent. To get the best results, apply these finishing along the grain of the wood. Make sure you choose a wood application that is a little darker than the wood itself. My treat came out so well. The old man was more than joyful.
